What Students Learn

What your child learns in elementary school sets the foundation for their academic success. The state sets learning standards for each grade level. They describe what skills and knowledge students are expected to gain by the end of the school year. Visit our district website to find out more about learning standards.

You are our partner in helping your child learn. The better you understand what we teach in class, the better you can help your child at home. Visit our district website to find out what we teach at each grade level, and find resources for strengthening those skills:

Your Child's Progress

Your child's teachers will use many tools to check your child's progress. Teachers observe how their students are doing in class. They also use quizzes and formal tests throughout the year. Visit the district website to learn more about the most common tests students take.

Three times a year, we provide report cards. They show whether your child exceeds, meets or is making progress toward learning standards, or if they need more help. Grades reflect your child's performance based on what we teach each trimester. You will see grades in one of four levels:

4 — Exceeds expectations for the standard at this time
3 — Meets expectations for the standard at this time
2 — Approaching expectations for the standard at this time
1 — Developing toward the standard at this time

If you have any questions or concerns about your child's learning, talk with their teachers. They can suggest resources to strengthen skills at home, or tell you more about resources available at school.
