Good afternoon Emerald Heights Families,

We have had a great first week of school! Students are learning about our schoolwide expectations, routines, and procedures. At Emerald Heights our motto is: Be safe, be responsible, be respectful, be a Hawk! We teach expectations for all areas of our building - all the classroom routines, the hallways, bathrooms, recess, and lunch, just to name a few. I am proud of how well the students with these! Our character trait for this month is courage. I've asked kids to think about what courage means to them. This might be a great conversation starter at home!

Kindergarten Starts Monday
We are so excited to welcome our kindergarteners to school on Monday, September 9th. We can't wait for them to join us for learning here at Emerald Heights. On the first day, kindergarten parents are free to walk their kindergarten students to class. If you wish to continue walking your child to class after the first day, we ask that you check in at the office. Please be sure to review the drop off and pick up procedures for the end of the day if you are new to our school and picking up your student here at school.

Watch Dogs
Attention, fathers and father-figures of Emerald Heights students.  We are excited about a new program at EM this year called Watch DOGS, which stands for Dads of Great Students.  It is a nationwide program that reaches out to men and father-figures to get involved in their student's school by committing to being present in the school building for 1 full day during the school year.  Responsibilities may include helping in your child's classroom, hallway monitoring, assisting in the library, sitting with students at lunch, and playing at recess.  Every year, Watch DOGS have a powerful impact on the lives of students around the country.  If you are interested, please attend our informational meeting on September 26 from 6-7pm.  Pizza will be served, and you even get to bring your kids!  Please be on the lookout next week for a green flyer with more information and an RSVP slip.  Watch DOGS, we look forward to a great year ahead with you!

Attendance
Attendance is the number one factor in determining student success at school. Each day of learning builds on the previous, and our goal is to have all students here 95% of the time - that equates to no more than 2 absences per month on average. When students miss class, they miss important information that helps them learn and grow. We know sometimes absences can't be avoided, but we ask that you keep them to a minimum and that you have your child at school on time and avoid early check-out whenever it is possible. Thank you so much for your support with this!

If you have any questions or concerns, please be sure reach out to us. You can reach our office at 360-662-8500. We value your partnership and look forward to an excellent 2024-2025 school year!
